Tooling and high strength

18Ni300 Maraging Steel Powder

18Ni300 Maraging Steel Powder for metal 3D printing (illustrative image)

In short: 18Ni300 (1.2709, also known as MS1) is a nickel-cobalt-molybdenum maraging tool steel. Ageing gives very high strength and hardness, and it is the standard material for conformally cooled mould inserts in metal 3D printing.

Typical applications

  • Injection mould inserts with conformal cooling
  • Die casting mould parts
  • High-strength mechanical and aerospace parts
  • Tooling and fixtures

Particle size and compatible processes

The standard cut is 15–53 µm, suitable for laser powder bed fusion (LPBF / SLM / DMLS) machines. Coarser cuts for DED/LMD processes can be requested. Share your machine model and layer thickness and we will confirm the right cut and batch documents together.

Frequently asked questions

Why is 18Ni300 used for conformal cooling?

Conformal cooling channels follow the mould surface and cannot be drilled conventionally; they shorten cycle time and reduce warpage. 18Ni300 prints reliably with low distortion and reaches high hardness after ageing.

What is the difference between 18Ni300 and H13?

18Ni300 is an easy-to-print maraging steel common in plastic injection moulds. H13 is a hot-work tool steel with better high-temperature performance but requires preheating during printing.

18Ni300 powder price: what does it depend on?

The price depends on order quantity (kg), particle size cut, packaging (argon-filled cans or bottles), required documents (certificate of analysis, PSD report) and lead time. For a current price, state the quantity and your machine model in the quote form.

Which documents come with the order?

A certificate of analysis with chemical composition, particle size distribution (D10/D50/D90), flow and density values can be requested for each batch. Additional documents for aerospace, medical or dental projects are confirmed at the quotation stage.
