Light weight alone is not a decision
AlSi10Mg (aluminium alloy) can be considered for lightweight housings and thermal management designs; Scalmalloy (aluminium-scandium alloy) where a high strength-to-weight ratio is needed. Geometry, service temperature and manufacturability are decisive.
Do not mix processing conditions
The CNPC catalogue gives as-built and heat-treated conditions separately. Comparing one alloy’s as-built result with another’s heat-treated result is misleading. Look at elongation, conductivity and the required post-processing as well as strength.
Machine and material package
Check whether the alloy has validated parameters on your machine, the required powder cut and whether you have heat treatment capacity. The availability of a powder does not mean production is ready on every system.
