Dental CoCr (Cobalt-Chromium) Powder

Dental CoCr (Cobalt-Chromium) Powder for metal 3D printing (illustrative image)

In short: Dental CoCr (cobalt-chromium) powder is a nickel- and beryllium-free spherical metal powder used by dental laboratories to produce crown and bridge frameworks and removable partial denture frameworks by laser powder bed fusion (SLM/LPBF, often called laser sintering).

Typical applications

  • Metal-ceramic crown and bridge frameworks (copings)
  • Removable partial denture frameworks
  • Implant superstructures and bars (depending on intended use)
  • Dental laboratory R&D and process validation

Typical composition and powder properties

Dental CoCr powders — general reference ranges
Cobalt (Co) Balance (typically ~60–65 %)
Chromium (Cr) Typically ~24–30 %
Molybdenum (Mo) / Tungsten (W) Mo and/or W depending on product
Nickel (Ni), Beryllium (Be) Not contained (Ni- and Be-free formulations)
Particle size Fine cuts for LPBF (e.g. 15–45 µm), confirmed per machine
Morphology Spherical, gas atomized

General information only. Chemical limits, particle size distribution and thermal expansion of the delivered product are verified with its datasheet and batch certificate. Intended use and regulatory documents (e.g. ISO 22674 declarations, CE/MDR status) are confirmed at the quotation stage.

Particle size and compatible processes

The standard cut is 15–53 µm, suitable for laser powder bed fusion (LPBF / SLM / DMLS) machines. Coarser cuts for DED/LMD processes can be requested. Share your machine model and layer thickness and we will confirm the right cut and batch documents together.

Frequently asked questions

Is laser sintering powder the same as dental CoCr powder?

In dental laboratories, “laser sintering powder” usually means the CoCr powder used on SLM/LPBF machines. Technically the process fully melts the powder; the material is a cobalt-chromium dental alloy.

What is the difference between CoCrMo and CoCrW?

Both are cobalt-chromium based; one uses molybdenum and the other tungsten (often with molybdenum) as secondary elements. Mechanical values and ceramic compatibility differ, so they are not direct substitutes.

Does dental CoCr powder contain nickel?

Dental CoCr powders are generally formulated nickel- and beryllium-free. The exact composition is verified with the datasheet and batch certificate for each product.

Dental CoCr powder price: what does it depend on?

The price depends on order quantity (kg), particle size cut, packaging (argon-filled cans or bottles), required documents (certificate of analysis, PSD report) and lead time. For a current price, state the quantity and your machine model in the quote form.

Which documents come with the order?

A certificate of analysis with chemical composition, particle size distribution (D10/D50/D90), flow and density values can be requested for each batch. Additional documents for aerospace, medical or dental projects are confirmed at the quotation stage.
